Caroline Thibodeaux knows who she is: a devoted mother, a good Christian and a competent housekeeper to the Gellman family. But when Noah Gellman's mother dies, he clings to Caroline despite barriers of race, culture and religion. Meanwhile, outside, the rising tide of the civil rights movement threatens to alter her world forever.
