Caroline, or Change

Caroline, or Change

Caroline Thibodeaux knows who she is: a devoted mother, a good Christian and a competent housekeeper to the Gellman family. But when Noah Gellman's mother dies, he clings to Caroline despite barriers of race, culture and religion. Meanwhile, outside, the rising tide of the civil rights movement threatens to alter her world forever. Caroline is torn between her home and her work, her faith and her instinct, her future and her past. What can she do if the only way to remain true to herself is to change? With music by Jeanine Tesori and a book by Tony Kushner loosely based on his provocative and personal story, Caroline, or Change interweaves text and music ranging from prose to fantasy, from gospel to zydeco, and from Motown to klezmer to tell a story as complex and rich as its heroine. Experience this Laurence Olivier Award-winning musical at Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.
